The city’s temperate climate produces long hot summers and mild cool winters that are perfect for enjoying the numerous opportunities for outdoor sports and recreation found throughout the region.

Samson is located approximately ten miles from Geneva State Forest, Alabama’s largest state forest that covers more than 7,000 acres across the southeastern portion of the state. The forest is a popular destination for hunters, who come from miles around to hunt for white-tailed deer, wild turkey, and eastern gray squirrel, and is home to Geneva State Forest Lake, a 100-acre fishing lake surrounded by trails suitable for hiking, biking, and horseback riding. Geneva County Public Fishing Lake is a complex of two fishing lakes occupying opposite sides of Geneva County Road 63. The lakes are located just six miles northeast of the city and provide excellent fishing for bream, bluegill, catfish, and largemouth bass.

Samson is located just fifteen miles northeast of Camp Victory, a non-denomination Christian summer camp and retreat center that is available for workshops, retreats, conferences, banquets, and reunions. The retreat features air-conditioned cabins, classrooms, a gymnasium, game room, conference room, dining room, and chapel, and offers a host of recreational activities that include fishing, boating, kayaking, canoeing, miniature golf, horseback riding, and a range for rifle and archery shooting.

Conveniently situated at the crossroads of State Route 52 and State Route 87, Geneva offers the best of Southeastern Alabama living!
